I just love Jean Michel Basquiat. I got pretty obsessed a few years ago and now I just watch the movie a lot. If you haven't seen Basquiat you should Netflix it right away. It was created by his friend Julian Schnabel who recently made the Diving Bell And The Butterfly. Not a date movie unless you're ok with watching depressing stuff together.The cool thing about Basquiat is that he was one of those artists that's obsessed with words so he was drawn to graffiti initially but he wasn't one of those "tag your name" kind of people. A lot of his written works are really poignant.

I broke out the Basquiat movie soundtrack the other day when my iPod died. Seriously, one of the most magical artists ever. Even a movie based on his life moves me immensely.

Ha! I love the soundtrack!
Also, I ran into an artist at MOMA that was telling me about Julian Schnabel, that he uses "subpar" materials in his art... that the plates were falling off the canvas all the time...
weird huh?
