Wheaties Updates Itself. Finally Admits It's Targeting Men.

Everyone is familiar with the orange cereal box with the Olympian of the year on the front but now, the 85 year old cereal (General Mills) is producing a Wheaties line called Wheaties Fuel that is aimed specifically to men.
This is a great idea, and probably one that should have been done years ago. With all of the niche foods these days it's a natural fit and it will be interesting to see if others follow suit. What I've been seeing a lot are foods targeted to women particularly in the weight loss industries so this is somewhat novel and the site is well done. It's complete with interesting and user-gen feel videos, Facebook and Twitter links, and a way to pre-order the new boxes so congrats to Wheaties.

Ha I like the idea that there's a Collector's Edition cereal box... just in case I want to display my Wheaties. What's the benefit of Wheaties Fuel, do we know? Their website is surprisingly short on details. I won't believe it til I read the nutrition facts.

I have a question - have you ever had a bowl of Wheaties without putting some fruit in it? It's like the bar bet of trying to eat seven Saltine crackers without drinking water - impossible

sheepish admission - I won't eat Wheaties at all. Unless there's a heaping bowl of Fruity Pebbles with it.

ALL athletes know getting enough lean protein is the most important thing to have in a diet to repair and build muscle. Cereal does not equal protein. Complete carbs are good. But most serious athletes will not get them from cereal. Also, are they marketing to MEN or 10-year old boys? Collector box? Please! Why not put a plastic, toy Superbowl ring in there too? Most companies just don't understand how to effectively brand and advertise for the male market. You can't just color your product or packaging black and attach it to football.
