The Streets Are Speaking.

Japanese pop artist Yoshitomo Nara's got a big show at Marianne Boesky Gallery in Chelsea and got popped for drawing a smiley face on the subway wall. His paintings go for as much as 1.5 million dollars. I don't think graffiti ever completely went out - but it certainly is making news more often. Even Twitter is being written on the walls. I think it's a very interesting correlation between what's going on online and what's going on offline. We can write anything online and anyone can read it. We are comfortable with strangers knowing that we've just gotten a cup of coffee or had a fight with a lover. Maybe more people are comfortable enough with it to write it on a real wall now? Maybe it's just spring fever?
